(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois beer drinkers prefer Chicago brand Goose Island, compared to their counterparts in many states, who seem to favor Budweiser.
So says a survey and analysis posted by Top Data, a consortium of marketing companies, which looked at drinking habits during the pandemic by crunching online sales data, coupled with a 1,000-person survey.
Online sales of alcohol are 262% higher compared to 2019, while alcohol consumption among Americans aged 30-59 up by 19% since the pandemic reached the U.S.
Top Data breaks down the five most popular beers in 48 states and says that in 23 of them — a plurality, if not a majority — Budweiser is king.
As for Illinois, Goose Island is No. 1, followed by Budweiser; Stella Artois; Bud Light and Heineken.
Some neighboring Midwestern states, including Iowa and Michigan, have made Budweiser their favorite, at least according to the analysis. In Indiana, Miller Lite is tops. In Wisconsin, craft brew Spotted Cow is the favorite.
Goose Island is owned by Anheuser-Busch, which makes Budweiser products.
