(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A measure approved by the Indiana House this week would give the green light to a work zone speed enforcement camera pilot program.

Under the proposal, the Indiana State Police would administer a pilot program in which a maximum of four cameras would be set up on highway worksites. Signage would also be posted to inform drivers that anyone traveling at least 11 mph over the speed limit would be subject to a ticket.

Sponsors said the goal of the bill is to keep construction workers safe.

The measure will move to the Indiana Senate, which approved a similar proposal in 2022.
