(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An Indiana OB-GYN is planning on moving after the state banned most abortions.
Dr. Katie McHugh has been sharing her story on social media. She said she’s up nights unable to sleep.
“Being forced to leave my home because of the work that I do is so heartbreaking,” McHugh said.
The work that she does includes providing aboritons. She’s moving her practice to Illinois. She told CBS-2 she’s not the only one.
“We are choosing to move our practices and to travel to states where we are able to provide this care,” said McHugh.
“Just because my state has taken the very backwards approach that people should not be able to make those decisions does not mean that my oath as a physician changes, so I will take my oath to Illinois.”
She has lived in Indiana her whole life and said she thought she would retire there. McHugh said she’s not yet sure where in Illinois she will be practicing.
