CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lori Lightfoot said she’s hopeful Chicago will soon be able to resume limited indoor dining as the state eases some COVID-19 restrictions.

Mayor Lightfoot has been pushing hard for indoor dining and service to allowed at Chicago restaurants and bars, but she sounded only graceful and grateful at the Pritzker Administration moving Chicago into Tier 2 on Monday, loosening restrictions slightly - but still not allowing for indoor service at bars and restaurants.

"I am glad the change is made to open up the possibilities for our museums and gyms to be able to open up at limited capacity and I am looking forward to a day when we - and hopefully soon - where we can have indoor dining in restaurants," she said.

Mayor Lightfoot was asked if she sees indoor dining on Chicago's horizon.

"I do," she said. "First of all, I want to thank the Governor and Dr. Ezike for their leadership and understanding that adjustments needed to be made in the way that hospital capacities are calculated. The bottom line here is hospitals need to be ready and be COVID ready, and we are."

Mayor Lightfoot said Chicago's hospital capacity is good and the test positivity rate - a major indicator - is almost down to the level where it needs to be, so restaurants may soon get the reprieve they have been clamoring for.
