CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Illinois Department of Public Health announced Tuesday that Region 8 (DuPage and Kane) and Region 9 (Lake and McHenry) are moving to Tier 1 effective immediately.
Tier 1 mitigation allows restaurants and bars that serve food to seat customers indoors at 25 percent capacity or 25 people per room, whichever is less.
Additionally, group recreational activities, such as recreational sports and fitness center classes can resume with capacity limits. Meetings and social events are also allowed at 25 percent capacity or 25 people per room, whichever is less.
Over the weekend, Chicago bar and restaurant owners were allowed to open their doors for the first time in almost three months.
Indoor service previously resumed in the Will-Kankakee county region.
IDPH will continue to closely monitor test positivity, ICU bed availability, and the number of people in the hospital with COVID-19. Should data show regions trending in the wrong direction, based on the established mitigation metrics, regions could once again find themselves in a higher tier with increased measures.
Also Tuesday, state officials announced 3,667 positive cases of COVID-19 and 87 additional deaths.
Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,108,430 cases, including 18,883 deaths, statewide.
The new cases were among 69,285 tests sent to the Illinois Department of Public Health over the past 24 hours, lowering the state’s test positivity rate to 4.6% from 4.7%.
As of Monday night, 3,001 people in Illinois were hospitalized due to COVID-19. Of those, 608 patients were in the ICU and 320 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

In addition, approximately 537,050 doses total have been allocated to the federal government’s Pharmacy Partnership Program for long-term care facilities. This brings the total Illinois doses to 1,764,675.
IDPH is currently reporting a total of 719,995 vaccines administered, including 110,403 for long-term care facilities.
On Monday, a total of 27,232 doses were administered. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 30,180 doses.
