UPDATE: Infant dies after being shot in South Shore

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A female infant who was shot in the head while riding in a car Friday evening in South Shore has died, Chicago police said.

The child — whom fire officials said was 5 months old — reportedly was inside a vehicle in the 7700 block of South South Shore Drive around 6:45 p.m. when a second vehicle approached and someone inside fired shots.

The baby was struck in the head and transported to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

A second victim, a 41-year-old man, was traveling in a separate vehicle and drove to the University of Chicago Hospital with a gunshot wound to the eye area. He was in good condition.

No arrests have been reported.
