(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — If spending an hour in the tropics sounds good to you on a wintry day, Garfield Park Conservatory can help make that possible.

“There are a lot of people itching for us to reopen,” Mary Eysenbach, director of conservatories for the Chicago Park District, said Thursday.

And Garfield Park Conservatory will be reopening later this month, the first time the interior has been open to the public in almost a year.

“Even though the pandemic hasn’t ended, there’s a way for us to open safely and give people what they want, not only the tropical experience in the middle of weather like this, but also to see some spring flowers. And to be able to smell spring flowers,” Eysenbach said.

Beginning Friday, the general public can start making reservations for timed entry to Garfield Park Conservatory. Visits are limited to 60 minutes, and groups of up to 5 are allowed.
