(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Joliet resident Arthur Mitchell was taken into custody Monday night after police said he broke into his girlfriend’s home.
It happened in the 800 block of Kelly Avenue around 8 p.m.
Officials said the 60-year-old entered the apartment by force, then attacked his girlfriend and her adult son with a metal curtain rod.
It’s unclear what sparked the attack and if there were any injuries, but when officers arrived, they saw a woman running away and Mitchell standing near the front door.
After ignoring initial commands to be placed under arrest, Mitchell was taken into custody.
He now faces several charges including home invasion, domestic battery, assault, criminal damage to property and obstructing a peace officer.
