CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Jury selection begins later this morning, as the Chicago-born singer R. Kelly goes again on trial to face several sex crime charges.

R. Kelly was on trial here in Chicago in 2008, accused of sex crimes then, and he was acquitted of all counts. At the center of that trial was a 27-minute videotape which prosecutors used as evidence to show that Kelly had sex with a teenage girl. The girl did not testify.

But now, 14 years later, she is expected to take the stand. Kelly is facing charges here of trying to obstruct the investigation surrounding the 2008 trial, along with charges of coercing minors into sex acts and with producing images of child sex abuse.

Last year, Kelly was convicted in New York of recruiting women and underage girls for sex. He had already begun serving a 30-year sentence before he was brought here to Chicago to face these federal charges.

After this trial, he still faces other state charges in Illinois and Minnesota.
