Kane County now approves marijuana businesses in unincorporated areas

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Kane County Board has done an about-face on marijuana businesses.

The board voted to overturn its own 2019 ban on marijuana businesses in unincorporated areas of Kane County.

"The motion passes. Congratulations. Congratulations to all of you supporting a new business industry that I think is going to provide not only financial resources, but scientific resources here to Kane County," said Board Chair Corinne Pierog.

It was noted during the meeting that the thinking two years ago was that allowing marijuana businesses would bring crime.

That’s no longer a concern Sheriff Ron Hain told board members.

It appears that grow operations would be more likely than dispensaries.
