CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Officials in Kane County are working towards opening at least two mass COVID vaccination sites.
Kane County Board members talked about the two potential sites recently.
According to the Beacon-News, one would be in Batavia, likely at a former Sam’s Club off Randall Road, though the details have not yet been finalized. The 20,000 square foot building could be set up to administer as many as 1,500 COVID-19 vaccine doses per day, depending on supply, Kane County Board Public Health Committee Chairman Jarett Sanchez said.
Once the plans are finalized, the site could open within weeks, Sanchez said.
Another site being discussed would near Carpentersville. While officials declined to specify an exact location for that site, they said it would likely be smaller than the Batavia location.
The cost of running some of the sites could be split between the Illinois National Guard and a roughly $1.25 million grant from the state, Kane County Board Chairwoman Corinne Pierog said at a recent public meeting.
