KAKE COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Lake County State Attorney's Office has launched a new initiative to help coordinate the efforts to reduce gun violence in the North Suburbs.
Tierra Lemon is Lake County's new Director of the Gun Violence Prevention Initiative. Her mission is to work with community groups and police and any other entities trying to curb gun violence.
"Those are all very important, such as the community organizations, the members of the community law enforcement, and the idea for this to work is for everybody to be able to work collaboratively," she said.
Lemon said the need for collaboration is clear.
"Just based on the data that we have, gun violence in Lake County has been on an uptick since 2019 and the increases are pretty large and I think that they are large enough to have this implementation of a program."
Lemon is a licensed social worker and has worked with the University of Chicago's Violence Recovery Plan. She's already meeting with law enforcement officials and community folks.
