CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Lightfoot administration isn’t quarrelling with a blistering report from Chicago’s inspector general about the city’s recycling program.

A report from IG Joseph Ferguson says city government isn’t even trying to enforce laws requiring big apartment buildings and condos to offer recycling. It’s only the IG’s latest report on failed recycling efforts.

No argument from Mayor Lightfoot. She was the first to admit Chicago has never gotten recycling right.

“Unfortunately, we’ve never really gotten it right. We had the bins, then we had the bags, now we’ve got the recycling bins again. We've had challenges with some of our vendors."

Streets and Sanitation Commissioner John Tully, who oversees the program, said everything is under review. His department is talking with a vendor to look at the city’s “entire” recycling stream.
