CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Lightfoot suggests it’s unlikely we’ll see another broad stay-at-home order, even as the state’s number of coronavirus cases soars.
Lightfoot on Monday said health officials know a lot more about the disease than they did earlier this year when the pandemic first hit. She said she expects any new restrictions to be surgical in stead of “blunt.”
Still, she said, it’s crucial that people wear masks and avoid large social gatherings as the city and Illinois government try to slow the rise of new COVID-19cases and hospitalizations.
The mayor’s somewhat optimistic remarks came as Gov. JB Pritzker imposed even tighter COVID-related restrictions in Southern Illinois and DuPage, Kane, Kankakee and Will counties because of spiking metrics.
