CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lightfoot said the city will soon detail its ideas for a long-awaited casino complex in Chicago, but she’s not tipping her hand just yet.
Mayor Lightfoot said she expects her administration to issue what’s called a “Request For Proposal" soon, asking developers and casino companies to present their ideas for a Chicago casino. She said she has her own ideas about where it should be located, and the city has floated several possible sites; but she won't discuss that now.
"There's lots of different opinions about where that should be located, but what I am interested in is making sure that we really build a world class destination, in which the casino is a part, but not the sole part," Lightfoot said.
"We need to create an entertainment district, so that we have good-paying jobs, not only on the front end through the construction, but on the back end; and really have a tourist destination for people all over the world to come and see the latest attraction in this great city of Chicago."
There’s been talk about a Chicago casino for decades, under at least three mayors. Now, with authorization from Springfield, there appears to be action.
