(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the city’s proof-of-vaccination requirement for restaurants, bars and other places may soon disappear but there will be no change in the vaccine mandate for public employees.
Lightfoot said Chicago’s new coronavirus-related metrics are declining to levels officials would like to see before lifting the proof-of-vaccination requirement for bar and restaurant patrons and employees. She said she can’t say when that will happen.
She is adamant, however, that the vaccine mandate for most city employees will continue.
“We’ve given ample, ample, ample opportunities for them to be in compliance. We’ve worked with them, we’ve tried to meet them where they are. But yes, there are some people who have decided that they’d rather not be a city employee rather than get vaccinated.
“And that’s their choice.”
