Fisher the seal pup is ready to move from Lincoln Park Zoo to a new home across Chicago.

Fisher, a male grey seal pup, was born at the Lincoln Park Zoo in January 2022. When Fisher wasn’t getting the care from his mother that zookeepers expected, though, they decided extra attention from animal care and veterinary teams was necessary to ensure Fisher could thrive.

Lincoln Park Zoo’s curator of mammals Mike Murray said in a press release that they also received help from Brookfield Zoo.

Since then, Fisher has surpassed critical milestones, including swimming lessons, eating solid foods on his own, and he even participates in positive reinforcement training sessions.

“It’s bittersweet to see Fisher leave Chicago, especially after around-the-clock care and feeding sessions” said Murray, “But he’s in good hands at his new home, and we can’t wait to see him with a colony of his own.”

Fisher has now joined the seal colony at the Brookfield Zoo, and he can be seen at the zoo’s Pinniped Point.

Fisher joins two two-year-old females, Celia and Peanut, and sometime in the future he’ll meet the zoo’s two other grey seals, Georgie and Kiinaq.
