CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Little Village community leaders continue their demands for more police in the early morning hours, after three street vendors were robbed at gunpoint within the span of an hour Thursday morning.
“Three of our vendors got robbed within an hour, not with a gun, (but) with semi-automatic rifles,” said Baltazar Enriquez, president of the Little Village Community Council, outside the 10th District Police Station.
He and the street vendors are demanding from the mayor and CPD Supt. David Brown that crime spikes in Little Village be addressed in the same fashion as downtown and to the north, where police respond with visibility posts and added patrols.
“We don’t have the Gucci stores and the Burberry stores. We have strong working families, working in Little Village,” Enriquez said.
Enriquez is doubling down on a request already made in mid-December to increase 10th District police officers between 3 and 9 a.m. each morning.
