CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The historic covered bridge in Long Grove, something of a magnet for accidents, was hit again this week.

The Lake County Sheriff’s office said a truck hit the covered bridge on Robert Parker Coffin Road on Monday afternoon around 4:30 p.m.

According to a nearby shop owner, the driver of the box truck ignored the signs that say no trucks and give the clearance: 18'6".

Jeffery Taylor, the owner of Ma and Pa's Candy on Robert Parker Coffin Road, said he saw the truck coming and tried to warn the driver, all while recording video on his phone.

"Stop! Go up. Noooo!"

"Say bye to your truck."

That's what could be heard on the video before you hear the actually crash.

The truck was badly damaged.

The bridge, dating back to 1906, faired better than it did in 2018, just after it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, when it was severely damaged and had to be rebuilt.

There was minor damage this time and no injuries were reported.

The bridge had been closed for two years and reopened last August. It has been hit more than a dozen times since then.

The driver was issued two citations, one for disobeying a traffic control sign and one for violating the village ordinance for height at the covered bridge.
