(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Loop Alliance reports business is picking up and the outlook is improving more than a year into the pandemic.
It’s reporting more foot traffic, more vehicles in parking garages and more people in offices, restaurants and other businesses.
A survey of businesses indicates, among other things, staffers are returning to the downtown. Eighteen percent of surveyed companies said no workers were present in March, compared with 26% the month before.
Meantime, employers sound more confident about a return to the office and retailers are reporting better-than-expected sales in March, the Alliance said.
“We’re beginning to see real improvements in the state of the Loop,” Chicago Loop Alliance President and CEO Michael Edwards, said in a news release. “We hope with more beautiful spring weather and the vaccine rollout that these positive trends continue.”
On Wednesday, the Chicago Loop Alliance will host a virtual discussion called “The Loop’s Comeback” from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Register for the free event at LoopChicago.com/DFS.
