CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Hotel occupancy and pedestrian activity has climbed to its highest level since the start of the pandemic.

Last month’s report from Chicago Loop Alliance shows hotels averaged 71.3 percent occupancy.

Another sign of recovery; people are coming back to the office.

"We are seeing offices buying or renting more space and announcing that they're recommitting, to the Willis Tower for example, just recently," Edwards said. "But it's happening slowly, because now people have lots of different options."

Edwards said he also expects business travel to pick up now that certain COVID mitigations have eased for international travel.

“The release of the restriction on international travel is a huge thing for Chicago. We are a global city. We do a lot of global businesses. The international visitor or tourist is a very high-valued commodity coming to Chicago, so we're very excited about more business travel coming in, and more convention business being able to happen.”

For those Loop workers who continue to return downtown, Chicago Loop Alliance has created a Back to Work Toolkit that can be found here.
