(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — When the Chicago White Sox welcome the Baltimore Orioles to Guaranteed Rate Field later this week, the action on the field won’t be the only treat for fans.
For the first time since 2019, the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory returns to the South Side with its “Mobile Museum.”
“Fans will be able to hold game-used bats from players such as Frank Thomas, Frank Robinson, Paul Konerko and Jim Thome,” said Andrew Soliday, marketing director for the Hillerich & Bradsby Company. “For our Orioles fans, we’ll also have a game-used Cal Ripken Jr. bat.”
Hillerich and Bradsby has been making Louisville Slugger bats since 1884.
“We are so excited to get back up to Chicago,” Soliday said. “We love White Sox fans. We see many of them come through our museum each year, so we just love coming up there and talking baseball with them.”
Along with the game-used bats, fans can see other pieces of the museum’s collection throughout the Baltimore series, including a baseball signed by former President Obama and a giant White Sox helmet made of LEGOs.
There also will be demonstrations of how baseball bats are made. What used to take a craftsperson 30 minutes to create takes about 30 seconds, Soliday said.
