(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Lurie Children's Hospital is increasing security and moving a transgender youth support group from in-person to virtual meetings.

The move came after the hospital attracted the attention of a social media account that has criticized transgender care programs at other children's hospitals across the country.

The account, called Libs of TikTok, has 1.3 million followers. It posted a number of tweets critical of Lurie's program, which helps transgender youth and their families work through their gender identity development.

While Lurie has not received any threats in connection with the social media account, other hospitals have been the target of threats.

A woman from Massachusetts is now facing federal charges in connection with a bomb threat to Boston Children's Hospital. The threat was called in shortly after the Libs of TikTok account falsely claimed that the hospital performed gender-affirming hysterectomies on children.
