SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After just two days on the job, Michael Madigan is asking his successor to step down. The former, longtime Illinois House Speaker issued a statement Tuesday night asking State Rep. Edward Guerra Kodatt to step down from the 22nd District post.

State Rep. Edward Guerra Kodatt, 26, was hand-picked Sunday to represent the 22nd District after Michael Madigan announced he was resigning. Madigan gave Kodatt 56 percent of the weighted vote.

Now, just two days later, Madigan is changing his town and calling on the 13th Ward employee to step down due to “alleged questionable conduct.”

“After learning of alleged questionable conduct by Mr. Kodatt, it was suggested that he resign as state representative for the 22nd District,” a joint statement from Madigan and 13th Ward Alderman Marty Quinn read. “We are committed to a zero tolerance policy in the workplace.”

It is unclear what lead to the request.

Late Wednesday morning, Kodatt was now listed as a "former" house member.

A spokesperson for House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch confirmed the clerk's office received Rep. Edward Kodatt's resignation Wednesday morning.

With the support of two other Democratic committeepersons, Kodatt received 63 percent of the weighted vote needed to replace Madigan during a meeting Democrats held Sunday morning.
