(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 77-year-old man shot and killed someone trying to rob him Saturday afternoon on the South Side, Chicago police said.
The man was in an on open garage of a residence in the 500 block of East 89th Street about 12:25 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up and an unknown offender got out, pulled out a gun, and demanded the victim’s property, police said.
The 77-year-old then produced a firearm and shot the would-be robber in the head and chest. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The older man, who was not hurt, had a valid concealed-carry license, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Detectives are investigating.
