CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Charges have been filed in a double murder in Humboldt Park during last month’s Puerto Rican pride celebration following a minor traffic crash. And Chicago police have released new information that one victim likely shot the other.

Yasmin Perez, 23, and Gyovanny Arzuaga, 24, both died of gunshot wounds, he that night after being shot in the head execution-style, she three days later of a gunshot wound to the neck. The couple had two children.

Perez was pulled from the driver's seat by a mob that Chicago police say included Anthony Lorenzi, who is alleged to have shot Arzuaga. But the Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said it appears that Arzuaga fired the shot that killed his girlfriend from inside the car.

"It is more than likely that the deceased individual who got executed dead because they were in the front seat and they were the ones getting punched and kicked in pulled and, you know, more than likely. So we still have to reconcile a little bit more evidence and there's GSR tests, etc. But from everything points to once again more than likely that he discharged a firearm accidentally causing that gunshot wound to her neck," Deenihan said.

The suspect, Lorenzi, Deenihan said, was identified with the help of community members. He was arrested in San Diego.
