Man charged in fatal shooting of bank security guard in Gary; police searching for second suspect

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There are now charges against one of the suspects in the killing of a bank security guard before a hold-up in Gary on Friday.

According to the Lake County, Indiana Sheriff’s Office, James A. King, 24, of Miami, Florida is charged with in the perpetration of a felony and with armed robbery.

Police said King and an accomplice ambushed the bank security guard, identified as 55-year-old Richard Castellana, outside the First Midwest Bank branch on Ridge Road, shooting him with a handgun and a long gun, before going into the bank and robbing it.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said King was found in a wooded area near 43rd Avenue and Garfield Street in Gary, with a backpack containing a .40-caliber Glock Model 22 handgun and about $9,000 in cash.

The search is still on for a second suspect.
