CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The first person charged in the shooting death of 7-year-old Jaslyn Adams at a West Side McDonald’s drive-thru is due in bond court Sunday.

Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said several charges including murder have been filed against an 18-year-old man named Marion Lewis in the shooting that happened last weekend.

Lewis was shot by Chicago police on the Eisenhower Expressway Thursday afternoon after they said he attempted to carjack an SUV at gunpoint with a family inside.

He faces charges from that as well as murder charges in the shooting death of Jaslyn on April 18 at the McDonald’s in the 3200 block of West Roosevelt Road. Her father, Jontae Adams, was seriously injured during the shooting.

Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said police found two guns on Lewis when they arrested him.

“One of them was an AK-47-like pistol grip sort of pistol. Both those weapons that were on his person that were recovered, they did test positive to the murder weapons used at the scene to kill Jaslyn,” Deenihan said.

Superintendent David Brown declined to specify what police believe Lewis’ role was in Jaslyn’s death, but said they'll release more details after arresting the others involved.

“Let’s get to the point of bringing all of the offenders to justice then we’ll tell the full story of what happened here. But let’s withhold further detailed commentary until we capture all of the offenders,” Brown said Saturday at police headquarters.
