WHEELING, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The man charged with a murder and kidnapping in Wheeling remains in jail Thursday morning.
Ahmeel Fowler, 26 was denied bail during his first court appearance. The Pingree Grove resident is charged with first degree murder in the death of 21-year- old Ja'nya Murphy and the kidnapping of her baby daughter.
Murphy was found dead on her apartment floor earlier this month. The baby was found dead in a retention pond in Hammond, Ind. several days later. The Daily Herald reported that Fowler fled to Springfield, Mo., where he was later taken into custody.
Fowler is due in court again on Dec. 10.
