(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Grundy County man has been sentenced to 12 1/2 years in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms and explosive devices, prosecutors announced Friday.

John Feeney, 23, of Minooka, was found to be in possession of two handguns, three explosive devices, magazines with ammunition and drug paraphernalia in January 2020, authorities said. The day before, he allegedly had used one of the guns to shoot at another person, striking a vehicle.

Feeney previously had been convicted of a felony offense in state court and was prohibited from possessing a firearm or explosive, prosecutors said.

He pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of illegal possession of an explosive during the commission of a felony, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago said.

U.S. District Judge Jorge L. Alonso imposed the 150-month prison sentence on Wednesday.
