(WBBM NEWSRADIO) —The Lake County Illinois Sheriff’s Office is commending a Grayslake man for saving the life of a motorist from Oklahoma over the weekend.
Thirty-year-old Griffin Rebecca was traveling Saturday on Route 120 in Wildwood, when he noticed another driver had gotten out of her car.
“She was in trouble. She threw her scarf down so I immediately pulled over, ran over to her, and she was giving me the universal sign of ‘I’m choking’ with her hands on her throat.”
Rebecca successfully performed the Heimlich Maneuver on the 42-year-old woman.
“She looked at me and she said, ‘You just saved my life.’

Rebecca said in the intensity of the moment he had not realized the woman’s dog was biting him.
After she assured him he was okay, “I sprinted away to get away from the dog,” he told WBBM Newsradio’s Steve Miller Wednesday.
He said he called 9-1-1 as a precaution; everyone was fine.
The Lake County Sheriff says Rebecca is “a community hero.”
