(WBBM Newsradio) — Mayor Lightfoot on Monday expressed disgust at a fatal weekend shooting in which a group of men attacked a motorist couple during the Puerto Rican Day Parade in Humboldt Park.

Police say a crash preceded the 9:15 p.m. shooting Saturday in the 3200 block of West Division Street.

Members of a crowd surrounded a couple’s car and dragged the woman driver out and beat her, Chicago police said Monday. A person fired a gun, striking the woman. When the man she was with jumped out of the car to intervene, he was fatally shot in the head, execution-style, Chief of Detectives Brandon Deenihan said.

The man was identified as Gyovanny Arzuaga, 24. The woman — Arzuaga’s girlfriend — was critically wounded and taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center.

“It’s a horrific statement, it’s a horrific statement about those men who were involved in that,” Lightfoot said Monday, while commenting on weekend violence.
