CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Mayor Lightfoot formally announced her bid for re-election in Chicago's mayoral race via an official video on Tuesday.

Lightfoot acknowledged some of the criticism she's faced since she took office in 2019 but tried to steer toward a vision of a more equitable Chicago.

"Of course, there are tough challenges ahead," Lightfoot said. "We have a lot of work to do because change just hasn't happened overnight, but together we will make our city safer, fairer, and more equitable for all."

Mayor Lightfoot has a private fundraiser scheduled this evening in Chicago, with the entry fee reportedly ranging from $250 to $10,000.

Tonight’s gathering is being called “a celebration of Lori Lightfoot’s three years in office,” and a report says she will make campaign stops tomorrow.

There hasn’t been much doubt about this. The mayor has been talking up her accomplishments and, as she did at the City Club of Chicago in April.

"Just because some might not like my delivery doesn't mean we're not delivering," Lightfoot said at the top of her campaign announcement.
