(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Illinois state legislature has approved a measure that would guarantee paid leave for all Illinois workers.

Gov. JB Pritzker indicates he, too, supports the bill that would guarantee to all workers in the state a minimum level of paid leave of 40 hours a year, or five days off, for any reason.

The governor and proponents of the measure say that whether it’s dealing with a sudden family illness or an emergency auto repair, sometimes life gets in the way of work. They say paid leave would have a significant, positive impact on residents’ lives.

Workers would earn one hour of leave for every 40 hours worked.
