(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The massive Mega Millions jackpot turned local businesses into winners.

Illinois state lottery officials say the recent billion-dollar-plus Mega Millions jackpot was a big win for businesses selling the tickets.

New data indicates on the day of the July 29 drawing retailers were processing 79 Mega Millions tickets per second.

Sales for the big drawing resulted in $3.75 million in commissions and bonuses for ticket sellers.

The winning ticket was bought in Des Plaines, but the buyer has not yet come forward publicly.
