CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — State police are investigating after someone vandalized a memorial to a fallen Chicago Police Officer.
Chicago Police called it a senseless act of vandalism when someone desecrated a memorial to fallen Chicago police officer Ella French in the lobby of the Thompson Center downtown.
The person responsible posted a video to Twitter of her trying to knock down the memorial and then removing a photo from the memorial, crumpling it up and then dumping the picture in a CTA garbage can.
Since the vandalism happened in a state-owned office building, Illinois State Police are heading the investigation.
French was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Aug. 7 in West Englewood. Her funeral was held Thursday morning and she was laid to rest Saturday. The vandalism video sparked outrage online with people calling it a disgraceful and disgusting act.
