CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Commuters going between Chicago’s South Side and Downtown have more options starting today, as Metra is adding four trains to its Electric Line.

Metra is adding two trains from Blue Island to Millennium Station and two for the opposite trip. The rail line says reverse peak ridership on the Electric Line is now higher than it was before the pandemic.

CEO Jim Derwinksi says Metra will continue to make periodic adjustments to meet riders’ changing needs. Some of those needs include more trains between Hyde Park and downtown.

Some trains will no longer stop between 111th and 63rd and from 47th Street to 18th Street in order to arrive downtown earlier.

The changes take the Electric Line to about 85% of its pre-pandemic service level.
