WATCH: Military plane strikes flock of birds while trying to take off at Midway

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A military plane carrying the head of the National Guard was forced to return to Midway Airport last night.

The military C-37 plane was carrying four-star general Daniel Hokanson who had made appearances in Chicago Monday. The C-37 is the military version of a Gulfstream executive jet.

The FAA said the plane returned to Midway after the left engine of the plane collided with a flock of birds shortly after takeoff. No one was injured.

General Hokanson is a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and oversees more than 450,000 soldiers and air personnel across the country.
