NORMAL (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A body discovered near a central Illinois creek has been identified as a college student from Libertyville who was reported missing on Thursday.

21-year-old Matthew Listman, a student at Illinois State University, was found dead late Friday night in Normal, near a creek area in Fairview Park, on Main and Summit streets, police said. The park is roughly a mile from the school campus. Listman had been reported missing since Thursday.

The McLean County Coroner’s Office continues to investigate the cause of death but does not believe there was foul play. A preliminary autopsy revealed Listman died of drowning, in the setting of cold exposure, the coroner’s office said. A toxicology report is still pending.

Normal police said conversations with family and friends, cell phone data and video from local businesses led them to the park.

The 21-year-old student was a senior business administration major, according to CBS-2 and ISU president Terri Goss Kinzy.

Listman’s death remains under investigation by police. Anyone with information is asked to contact the NPD Criminal Investigations Division at 309-454-9593 or email cso@npd.org.
