CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that Brittany Battaglia, a 33-year-old woman who has been missing from her Logan Square home since Friday, was the person found dead in a nearby apartment Monday.

Battaglia’s younger brother A.J. Battaglia said officials had already determined that the body found was Brittany’s prior to the medical examiner’s announcement.

“They [identified] her body from her tattoos, which I described to them,” he said.

A.J. Battaglia said he and his family are focusing on his sister’s boyfriend.

“She told me a few months back that he had a manic episode, but everything turned out to be OK,” he said. “Unfortunately, I think that’s what took place.”

The medical examiner said Brittany Battaglia suffered “multiple incised wounds,” and her death was ruled a homicide.

According to her family, Battaglia was last seen heading to her boyfriend’s home down the street from where she lived. When she did not return home, her roommate alerted A.J. Battaglia, who said he woke up the rest of the family.

He pleaded for information over the weekend and shared missing person alerts across social media. Battaglia said concern grew when his sister never boarded a flight she had scheduled Monday for a work trip to California.

Battaglia told CBS 2 his sister was a wonderful person.

“She was just a very nice person,” he said. “She got along with everybody. She tries to see the good in everybody, it doesn’t matter who you are.”

Authorities said one person was taken into custody, though no charges have been announced.
