(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Three Hispanic Chicago alderpersons – and a former City Council member – lined up behind mayoral candidate Paul Vallas, saying they trust him to handle public safety and city finances.
Alds. Felix Cardona Jr., Ariel Reboyras and Silvana Tabares were joined by former alderman George Cardenas, who is now on the Board of Review, in endorsing Vallas.
Cardenas said residents pay more taxes, fees and fines than any other big city.
“The last thing Chicago needs is more taxes,” he said at Vallas’ West Loop campaign offices. “I don’t care if they call it the ‘Mansion Tax.’”
Vallas foe Brandon Johnson has proposed raising the real estate transfer tax on home sales worth more than $1 million, to fight homelessness.
Vallas says his work on the city budget and public schools make him qualified to be mayor. “I’m running against someone who’s never managed anything,” he said.
The runoff election between the two candidates is April 4.
