(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — When you’re out on Jefferson Avenue in downtown Naperville, you can't help but notice the sweet smells of caramel corn and candy.

It turns out that's by design.

"We actually do pipe the smell outside, so they can smell it from blocks away,” says Jodi Chung, assistant manager of Naper Nuts & Sweets.

The store has been serving up home-made confections and classic candies since 1983.

"Our most popular stuff is the gummies," Chung tells WBBM Newsradio. "We probably have hundreds of kinds of gummies out there."

From gummies and gumballs to fine chocolates and fudge, there's something for everyone.

Their No. 1 seller, though, is gourmet caramel corn.

"Our popcorn is actually sold at a lot of local supermarkets, like Caputo's, Casey's, Pete's Fresh Market and some of the other stores around town,” Chung said.

The smell may be what draws people in, but the old-fashioned atmosphere is what keeps them coming back for more.

"The older generations grew up eating some of the candy that we have, and of course all kids love candy. And everyone of all ages says they're like a kid in a candy store."
