CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago's first NASCAR street race is a month away. As they get ready, some drivers and legends looked over the course Wednesday.

“It’s going to be a unique challenge,” NASCAR driver A. J. Allmendinger said.

Allmendinger spoke as traffic whizzed by Grant Park which will soon be transformed into a race track. He said street racing is tough but cool.

“What Chicago is going to do here over the two-day period is going to bring a lot of your casual or non-fans to the sport and kind of open their eyes. But, as a driver, it’s a unique challenge because there’s certain parts of this racetrack that are going to be super wide, and there’s a lot of parts of this racetrack that are going to be very narrow. At very high speeds, you make a two-inch mistake, you pay the price.

“I think the fact that it’s a compelling atmosphere, with a street course, and NASCAR has never done it before. [It] will be a real good draw, whether you’re a race fan, casual, diehard or not a race fan at all,” NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.
