CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There was a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday afternoon on the Near West Side for an affordable housing development for people with disabilities.

The Chicago Lighthouse, which serves people with visual impairments, is building the Foglia Residences at the corner of Wood and Roosevelt.

Mayor Lightfoot said it will have 76 apartments, and is part of the city's broader plan to provide affordable housing to people with disabilities with easy access to mass transit and important amenities.

"We want every Chicagoan including those with disabilities to have affordable, safe, and accessible housing," said Lightfoot. "That's why we've committed $26 million in financial assistance for Chicago Lighthouse residents here."
