Nearly 100 arrested after downtown looting last month: CPD

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWRSADIO) --Chicago Police announced Tuesday that nearly 100 arrests have been made after cases of looting downtown earlier this year, and that more and more tips are coming in on a daily basis.

The department has released new video from the night of August 10th, which officials say could land more looters behind bars.

“This video is about 47 minutes long,” Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan told reporters Tuesday afternoon. “But this is going to show over 80 different break-ins.”

Deenihan said CPD’s Looting Task Force has been busy in the past few months.

He said 67 total videos have been posted online "that have resulted in 74 felony arrests, including the arrest of Victor Doss.”

Deenihan said that the 26-year old was seen on video using a hammer to break into several stores along Michigan Avenue.

Superintendent David Brown said making more arrests is only possible with the public’s help.

“The people of Chicago are our eyes and ears,” he said. “Working together, we can rebuild that sense of safety that has been shaken.”
