(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A new sculpture is extending a hand to passengers at O'Hare International Airport.
“REACH” is two giant arms spanning a skylight atrium at the airport’s multimodal facility, where passengers get rental automobiles and other ground transportation.
Each suspended arm is about 30 feet long, and passengers in the escalator hall may feel as if they’re about to be scooped up by the hands.
It’s the work of New York-based artists Hank Willis Thomas and Coby Kennedy.
“As longtime collaborators we have had an incredible opportunity to create an artwork together and reframe a piece of public space, where most are in transit and passing through, for interconnectivity and togetherness,” the artists said. “‘REACH’ is a connection point and large-scale gesture that inspires us to come together.”
