(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There are more changes ahead for North Pond as the Lincoln Park Conservancy continues renovations that began a year ago.

Executive Director Doug Widener said the heavy work -- such as grating the shoreline, installing drains in flood-prone areas and dredging and lining the pond – is done.

But the $7.3 million project with the Chicago Park District, which was to be finished last fall, is running behind. Widener says crews got started late.

Up next is the planting of 70 native trees and hundreds of native plants next month.

This Saturday, the Conservancy is celebrating Earth Day with a cleanup and is looking for volunteers.
