(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Mayor Lori Lightfoot's defeat at the polls and Chicago's challenges with crime are being noticed across the country, including in New York City.
“I think it’s a warning sign for the country,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams told CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday morning program when asked about Lightfoot's defeat.
Adams also spoke of voters’ fears of crime all over the U.S.
“I think all of our big cities, I like to say we are three parties- Democrats, Republicans and mayors-, we are the closest to the problems. And, I stated on the campaign trail and in the city, public safety is the prerequisite to prosperity, same as Chicago, like New York and many of our big cities across America,” Adamas added.
Several polls have shown that crime was the top issue for Chicago voters in the mayor's race, and the two remaining candidates - Brandon Johnson and Paul Vallas - have both pledged to reduce crime if elected.
