OAK PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A western suburb is taking the next step towards getting its residents to buy-in to a plan to clean up the environment.
Oak Park is 4.5 square miles, but that didn’t stop the village board this summer from adopting a long term plan to make the suburb more sustainable. The plan is called Climate Ready Oak Park and next Saturday at Oak Park-River Forest High School, residents can learn more about how they can do their part including saving on energy bills.
Climate Ready Oak Park has five main goals including decreasing community-wide greenhouse gas emissions by 60 percent by 2030 and achieve community-wide net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Oak Park would also set aside 30 percent of its land as green infrastructure or enhanced park management for native plants wildlife and people.
