(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The once-ubiquitous Midwestern beer Old Style will once again be brewed in La Crosse, Wisconsin, owners of the brand announced.

Pabst Brewing Co. said production of the lager, currently made in Milwaukee, will return to its birthplace of La Crosse after a 20-year hiatus. The company plans to roll out Old Style tap handles, bar signs, glasses and other items at local bars and taverns as part of the change.

“We are thrilled to finally bring Old Style home,” Adam Powers, brand manager for Old Style beer, said in a news release. “We’re eager to reconnect with the community that nurtured the origins of Old Style, and hope these events will honor the deep history this beer has with the people and culture of La Crosse.”

Old Style was a Chicago staple in the mid- and late-20th century and for years was identified with the Chicago Cubs, but it faded into the background with the growth of changing tastes and micro and craft breweries. It's still available today.

The brand dates back to 1902. The product of G. Heileman’s Brewery originally was known as Old Times Lager. It was carbonated using an old-school brewing method known as “krausening.”
